Back in May, the Canada Safety Council (CSC) issued a press release to announce the forthcoming launch of Driver for Hire Online Training (DFH).  This collaborative training venture is being led by the CSC in collaboration with training solutions experts here at Bluedrop ISM, and funded by the Government of Canada’s Skills for Success Program. The training is aimed at advancing driver skills and safety within the delivery, passenger, taxi, and rideshare industries across Canada.   And we all benefit from safe drivers!

Following the announcement, my Bluedrop ISM colleague Meg Sulpher provided a detailed overview of this innovative training.  In her blog, Meg mentioned that DFH would be available for employers, career centres, and drivers during summer 2023. I’m excited to say that the fully-funded (i.e. no cost!) course launched mid-July with organizations who were pre-registered. We’re delighted at the effort gone into this program, and we’re already getting great feedback from the initial participants.  

From coast to coast, employers are seeing the value in DFH as it relates to helping close a noticeable gap in job-specific and industry-relevant driver training. Employers are expressing strong interest in DFH and are now committing their organization’s drivers to complete the training and advance their skills, safety, and service quality too. In addition, drivers completing the training gain a valuable life-long credential and digital certificate of completion from CSC.

Our goal is to drive the news across Canada and get even more companies and drivers availing of this fully-funded training. The details on the course, how it works, and FAQs are outlined on our Driver for Hire Online Training registration page, but let me jump to the 3 reasons why you should take advantage of this valuable training!

Ok, here are but three of the big reasons why you (and your driving staff) should complete the new Driver for Hire Online Training course:

  1. It offers industry relevant driver skills and safety training PLUS so much more!

    DFH includes 8 tailored modules endorsed by the Canada Safety Council to enhance driver skills, safety, confidence, and overall job performance. Employers with fleet drivers in applicable industries (passenger, cargo, onsite services, etc.) can bolster existing safety training initiatives with DFH. They will also find additional value with customer service & interpersonal upskilling content that can improve customer interactions and satisfaction ratings all in one course!

  2. It’s online and easily accessible to drivers from anywhere at any time.

    Employers and their drivers are busy – we get it! When this training was conceived as a safety and skill augment for the benefit of Canadian companies and drivers, it was clear that it needed to be easily accessible and self-paced. We learned that many drivers are not able to be in a classroom for hours or days for training. That’s also not practical for rural drivers and those not close to a classroom.
